Sobeys Inc. celebrates Canada 150 with Canada Screams for Ice Cream fundraiser

Proudly Canadian, Sobeys Inc. is celebrating Canada’s 150th birthday with a special fundraiser called “Canada Screams for Ice Cream.”

On Saturday, June 24, Fort McMurray customers can visit any of the three local Sobeys or Safeway stores and make a $2 donation in exchange for a tasty ice cream treat.

All of the proceeds raised from the event will help provide healthy meals and snacks for more than 100 local youth-based charities across Western Canada.

 “Sobeys Inc. has deep roots in Western Canada, and we can’t think of a better way to celebrate our country’s 150th birthday than with a fun ice cream event for our customers that will directly benefit the communities we proudly serve,” said Renée Hopfner, Director, Community Investment, Sobeys Inc.

To make the ice cream even sweeter, Sobey’s Inc. will match donations raised to a total of $100, 000.

Sobey’s Inc will also be launching the “Kids Paying-it-Forward program”, which will provide 150 kids from participating charities each with a $500 gift card to donate to a community group that has help their family, friends or neighbours.

Though this initiative a total of $75, 000 will be donated to help Canadian charities, empower local youth and continue Sobeys Inc. long-standing commitment to community giving.

The Fort McMurray stores will be supporting the Justin Slade Youth Foundation, a youth based non-profit that serves youth 12 to 17 years of age.

They provide an open daily drop-in center as well as structured programming provided free of charge.

Its mission is to empower young people to make better life choices and to express themselves in positive ways through music, drama, art and sports.
