Country 93.3 and 97.9 ROCK win award for their response to the wildfire

On June 8, 2017 CJOK/CKYX won the Gold Medal Award at the Western Association of Broadcasters Gala for the Response to the Wildfires.

On May 3rd, 2016 Country 93.3 and 97.9 Rock didn’t evacuate their station until 4 p.m. at which point they set up a remote station at the Wood Buffalo RCMP Timberlea Detachment.

They were the last local stations to go off-air around 6:20 p.m. on the 3rd.

Once the team evacuated the city and made it to Edmonton, they set up at Rogers radio stations in Edmonton and continued to provide coverage and much needed updates to the people of Fort McMurray.
