United Way hands out Community Building Awards

The United Way celebrated their donors and champions on June 14, 2017.

For the 2016 Community Campaign there was over 5,000 donors that combined raised approximately $6.3 million.

“This campaign was about a community coming together to take care of each another,” said Colin Hartigan, Community Campaign Chair. “Those who gave, gave more, and those who weren’t in a position to give, gave of their time.”

Multiple special awards were handed out to recognize United Way champions.

Samara Sullivan, a Suncor volunteer, was given the Pillar Award for putting herself front and centre during the campaign.

For her unwavering dedication and leadership Wanda Power of Syncrude received the Cornerstone Award.

Jonathan Wright was awarded the Blueprint Award for getting a local Pembina Pipeline campaign off the ground in 2016.

Cathy Steeves and Cayley Tkach were recipients of the Groundbreaker Award during the Shell Albian Sands workplace campaign for their focus on education and understanding.

The Salvation Army was recognized with the Maryanne Warren Foundation Award for helping move people from poverty to possibility.

Syncrude Canada received the President’s Award with over 1,000 employees locally which achieved the highest employee participation in 2016.

Awards were also handed out for the 2015 Campaign, they were cancelled last year because of the fire and evacuation.
