A local teacher was honoured for her work.

Kristen Craig a grade four teacher from Ecole Dickinsfield, won the Edwin Parr Award for Zone 2/3 from the Alberta School Boards Association (ASBA).

The award recognizes six first-year teachers across the province for their outstanding work.

“To be honest, I was shocked. All of the nominees had to be on stage and share a memory about their greatest teaching moment. Every nominee seemed like a winner. They started to announce the second winner, I heard them say “Fort McMurray Public Schools,” and was completely shocked. I didn’t even hear the rest,” said Craig, who was at the banquet in Edmonton.

Craig is involved in multiple after-school activities, she coaches volleyball, helps with school plays and runs a holiday decorating student leadership group.

Principal of Ecole Dickinsfield, Paul Smith, said that she is a teacher par excellence.

“We are truly blessed to have such an exemplary first-year teacher at our school and in our District. Kristen exudes positivity and a love of teaching and not only does she love kids, the kids love her!” added Smith.

Craig said teaching is a passion and that she fell in love with her job on the first day.
