Wood Buffalo RCMP arrest driver of stolen vehicle

A vehicle was stolen on June 29th, 2017 at 6:30 pm from the Timberlea area of Fort McMurray, with the vehicle owner only a few steps away.

The suspect got into the vehicle and drove away.

Wood Buffalo RCMP located the vehicle and attempted to stop it; however, the driver did not comply.

Due to concerns of public safety police did not continue with attempts to stop the vehicle.

Wood Buffalo RCMP were able to coordinate with the Boyle RCMP, and the vehicle was stopped with a spike belt on Highway 63, near kilometre marker 56.

A lone male was arrested from inside the vehicle.

Ricky Larocque, a 23-year-old man from Edmonton, has been charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime, over $5000.
  • Drive while disqualified.
  • Operate a motor vehicle while being pursued by police
  • Fail to comply with a probation order

Larocque will appear in Fort McMurray Provincial Court on July 10th, 2017.
