The Fort McMurray Oil Barons (MOB) have signed five players to letters of intent for the 2017-18 AJHL season.

An AJHL letter of intent protects a player as a member of a respective team.

In March, the MOB announced the signing of 2000-born defenceman Gunner Kinniburgh from Lethbridge, Alta and today they signed four 1999-born players to letters of intent.

Forwards Jackson Verstraete and Tyler Alger are both from Calgary and played for the Calgary Midget AAA North Stars last season.

As team captain of the North Stars last season, Verstraete recorded 28 points (12 goals,16 assists) in 30 games, while Alger recorded 28 points (9 goals, 19 assists) in 32 games.

Alger also appeared in two games with the MOB as an affiliate last season, where he recorded a goal and an assist.

Defenceman Blake Howard from California, USA and goaltender Chris Curr from St. Albert, Alta will also join the MOB this season.

In 32 games with the Anaheim Junior Ducks last season, the 6’3″ defenceman registered 14 points (5 goals, 9 assists) in 32 games.

In 21 games with the St. Albert Midget AAA Raiders last season, Curr recorded a 2.53 goals against average and a .924 save percentage.

Curr also started one game with the MOB as an affiliate player last season, picking up his first AJHL win in that start.
