Calgary Police Service dog Jester is now home recovering after being seriously wounded over the weekend.

He was stabbed in the head several times by a suspect in a break-in at Grant MacEwan School in the northeast community of Falconridge early Sunday morning.

A 14-year-old boy has now been charged with maiming a police animal, as well as break and enter and possession of a dangerous weapon.

Jester was initially rushed into emergency surgery with life-threatening injuries but is making a rapid recovery.

After surgery, he was upgraded to serious condition and is now home.

CPS and the Canine Unit is thanking the community for its support and for all the well wishes sent to Jester and his handler.
