United Way and Staples team up to raise donations for students

The United Way annual Tools for School program has returned to our region.

In partnership with the local Staples store, this program helps families experiencing financial hardship get their children equipped for school.

“When you are struggling to pay the bills and keep food on the table, the extra responsibility of paying for school supplies can be very challenging,” said Cecilia Mutch, Executive Director, The United Way of Fort McMurray.

“The Tools for School program, through our long-standing partnership with Staples, helps to ensure that every child has the learning tools they need to get their school year off to a great start.”

It is anticipated that this year’s program will help over 600 students in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo.

Supplies will be given to students of families experiencing financial difficulties.

“This program has been very near and dear to our hearts for many years,” said Cindy Tulk, General Manager of the Fort McMurray Staples.

“Our hope is to see every student excited about tackling the school year ahead and fewer parents worried about not being able to provide the supplies needed for their child.  Together, we can make a difference.”

Donations toward the Tools for School program can be made in store at Staples, located at 8544 Manning Avenue.

“The generosity in this community never ceases to amaze me,” said Tulk. “I am certain this year’s campaign will be a success once again.”

Those who donate $10 or more will receive a coupon from Boston Pizza for a free appetizer.
