Richardson backcountry reopen

The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB) has reopened access to the Richardson backcountry.

On Thursday, August 3, the RMWB closed the Fort Chipewyan Winter Road and access to the backcountry due to wildfires in the area.

“We remind residents that use of the Richardson backcountry is at their own risk,” said Deputy Chief of Operations and Technical Services Brad Grainger. “The culvert near the access to the Six Lakes recreational area is still washed out, and provincial firefighting crews continue to work in the area.”

The RMWB says there is no public safety concern at this time, but you are reminded to let others know where you are going.

If you find yourself in a dangerous situation, call 911.
