Arianna Johnson is running for a ward one council seat in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB) 2017 election.

Johnson is well known in the community for her work in the social profit sector.

Currently, she is the executive director of the Wood Buffalo Food Bank.

“Along with a strong sense of fiscal responsibility and a commitment to ensuring the needs of residents are heard, understood and acted on, I bring a dedication to public service as displayed during my time serving as a leader in local social profit organizations,” said Johnson.

Her campaign platform includes improving transportation and safety throughout the region and moving forward with the East Clearwater Highway.

She would also like the RMWB to become more responsible for delivering core services, serve as a strong advocate with other levels of government, renew the electoral format and break down the urban area into wards with council seat term limits.

Johnson would like to have a more accountable and engaged government with an open and transparent system.

Her campaign encourages stronger industry relations that seek collaborative solutions to tax rates, the utalization of RMWB land and leaseholds, rezoning municipally funded corporations and improving municipal administration.

“I will never give an answer or vote on a subject without first being educated on the topic and giving careful considerations to current and future implications on our region as a whole and I will always vote with the best interests of this community in mind,” said Johnson.

On Oct. 16, 2017, Johnson thinks that what will set her aside from the other candidates on the ballot is that she has the strengths to be fiscally responsible while still taking care of our citizens.
