The Fort McMurray Oil Barons have announced that forward Toby Shattler has committed to attend and play for the Portage College Voyageurs of the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference this season.

Shattler had seven goals and nine points to go along with 88 penalty minutes in 25 games for the MOB last season.

Acquired in a late October trade with the La Ronge Ice Wolves of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League, Shattler provided an intimidating and physical presence for the MOB, one they lacked at times early in the season.

The 21 year old played a key role in helping the team reach the North Division final, chipping in a goal and three assists in seven playoff games.

“Toby came in as a 20-year-old last year and brought a tremendous amount of leadership and experience to our hockey club,” said MOB Head Coach and General Manager Tom Keca. “He’s a heart and soul player that does all of the little things on the ice to help his team win. As a McMurrayite and an Oil Baron, we’re happy for him and wish him all the best at Portage College.”

The Fort McMurrayite finishes his junior hockey career with 27 goals, 55 points and 300 penalty minutes in 188 games split between the Grande Prairie Storm, Ice Wolves and MOB.

Shattler will join former MOB teammates Brandon Ralph (NAIT), Jackson McKinstry and Stefan Wood (SAIT) in the ACAC next season.
