Utility rates increasing this Friday

There will be a 10 per cent increase to utility fees, a $14/month curbside recycling charge and other adjustments to user fees.

Following Council’s approval of the Utility Rates Bylaw amendment in June, new utility rates take effect Fri, Sept. 1. The amendment includes a 10 per cent increase to utility fees, a $14/month curbside recycling charge and other adjustments to user fees.

The Municipality has been offering its Environmental Services utilities (water, wastewater, solid waste services) to residents at a highly discounted rate, and has not been charging residents for curbside recycling since the program began in 2013. This discount, along with decreasing industrial use of Municipal Services, has made current utility rates unsustainable.

Expect the change on your utility bill.
