The third annual Jeremy Snook memorial food drive will take place this weekend.

Snook passed away October 3, 2013 after a battle with brain cancer. At the young age of 19 years-old he left a legacy behind of having no regrets and no excuses. Family and friends of Snook, “Team Snook” continue to carry on his legacy by contributing to the community every year and honouring their great friendship with the food drive.

Volunteer Coordinator with the Wood Buffalo Food Bank (WBFB), Anna Noble says that it’s the perfect time for a food drive as the WBFB sees a decrease in donations throughout the summer months, and their two annual food drives in the spring and winter.

“Hosting food drives in the fall really bumps up the food and supplies that we have to give out as we head into the winter months,” said Noble.  “It’s the perfectly little buffer in the middle that keeps the stocks in our warehouse.”

Currently the two items the WBFB needs most are pasta noodles, as they have none and size one diapers.  Other highly needed items on their list are canned meats, vegetables and fruits.

The third annual Jeremy Snook memorial food drive will be on Saturday, September 30, 2017 from noon until five p.m. at Walmart, Superstore and Save on Foods downtown where Team Snook will be collecting both food and cash donations.

A full list of needed items and other volunteer opportunities can be found on the WBFB website.
