Branch 165 Royal Canadian Legion is proud to announce the arrival of a Light Armoured Vehicle monument.

The permanent community symbol arrived Tuesday afternoon, and pays tribute to our Canadian Armed Forces who served and sacrificed in Afghanistan from 2001-2014.

The LAV monument served with Canadians during the Afghan war. Some of the components have been removed to make the vehicle non-functional.

Branch 165 has been working on the project, which is part of the new Cenotaph grounds, has been a 14 month process.

The tribute was made possible thanks to help from branches of the Royal Canadian Legion across Canada, the LAV monument project, Paddock Transportation, CN Rail, Premier Towing and Northern Crane.

Fundraising efforts were done with the Oil Barons, legions and private sources around town.

Phase one of the beautification of the front of the legion includes finishing the new Cenotaph grounds and moving the flag pole.

Phase two will start in May 2018 which includes two sets of memorial gardens and a seating area.

A formal date for the vehicles dedication as a monument and unveiling, will be announced later.
