New leisure activity for seniors at MacDonald Island Park

Last Updated Oct 12, 2017 at 5:59 am MDT

Carpet bowling can now be played at MacDonald Island Park.

It is an interactive leisure activity designed to engage senior citizens and encourage active participation and social interaction.

Played on a special carpet with “bowls” specifically designed for the activity, the sport presents an opportunity for friendly competition and fun.

The Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo is excited for the local seniors.

“At the RRC we believe in life-long participation in sport, recreation and leisure activities, and this new option for seniors joins our very successful ‘Walk on the Island’ program as something seniors can enjoy in our community,” said Rachel Orser, Interim Chief Executive Officer of the RRC.

Carpet bowling is a free, drop in program available to all individuals aged 55 and above. It will be available most Mondays beginning on Monday, Oct.16 from 2:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. at the Nexen Energy Field House. No registration is required to participate. Seniors needing transportation to participate can contact St. Aidan’s Society by email at heatherl@staidanssociety.ca or by calling 780-743-4370 ext. 1.
