On Oct. 13  the fourth out of five United Conservative Party (UCP) leadership debates was held in Fort McMurray at Shell Place.

Paying $20 for a ticket, an audience of nearly 200 gathered to former PC Leader Jason Kenney, Lawyer Doug Schweitzer  and Fort McMurray – Conklin MLA Brian Jean debate.

Topics in the discussion included Alberta’s economy, the oil industry and Bill 21.

In front of his hometown crowd, Brain Jean spoke passionately about his plans to lower taxes for all Albertans and get rid of Bill 21 and Bill 8.

“We are giving more like no one else is giving, $190-billion over nine years that we sent to Ottawa that we never got back any transfer or any service for just from 2007 to 2017. It will stop, I promise you that,” said Jean.

Doug Switzer agreed with Jean and also spoke about cutting the carbon tax and the minimum wage increases that the NDP government brought in.

Jason Kenney’s remarks focused on balancing the budget and relationship with industry and environmentalists. He would also cut Bill 21 and numerous of other bills in order to get Alberta’s economy back on track.

The last UCP leadership debate will be on Oct. 17 in Lethbridge and the leadership election will be on Oct. 28.
