Suncor Energy is looking to produce more oil south of the community.

The company has submitted an application to the Alberta Energy Regulator for approval of its Meadow Creek West Project.

The project would produce about 40,000 barrels per day (bpd), using steam assisted drainage (SAGD) technology.

Outlined on the AER website, the project would include a central processing facility and other associated facilities.

The project would be about 30 kilometres south of Fort McMurray and 35 kilometres southwest of Anzac.

Construction would start as early as 2022.

Suncor’s proposed 80,000 bpd Meadow Creek East project, also south of town, received regulatory approval in March.
