Girls Inc. names 5th nominee for Women of Inspiration series

Girls Inc. of Northern Alberta and Syncrude are proud to announce the 5th nominee for the Women of Inspiration series.

The series recognizes women in the Wood Buffalo region who inspire others, break new ground and help create change while showing local girls positive, local role models.

Linda Mywaart started volunteering at 11 years old, which lead to her first visit to Fort McMurray in 1981 and her moving here in 1982.

Ms. Mywaart chairs both the Fort McMurray Public School Board of Trustees, along with many other roles at various school levels, and the Advisory Committee on Aging.

“We have built relationships and awareness of successes and challenges facing seniors and will continue to do so.”

She set up a Neighbourhood Watch in Saprae Creek, volunteers at the Wood Buffalo Food Bank and has been a visiting team for Pets for Wellness (PAWS) for 7 years. During her time with PAWS she trained and mentored new teams and secured a partnership with the Canadian Mental Health Association.

Her self-confidence and strong belief in learning while leading impacts young girls and women.

“I want young girls to stand strong and tall, know who you are. Always be willing to learn new things; the best leaders are also followers. And, always be kind; speak the kind truth.”

Linda will be honoured, along with 11 other nominees at the Women of Inspiration Celebration in June.
