Gas prices expected to rise by next week

Gas prices are on the rise in Canada, shooting up by nearly 12 cents per litre in the past week.

Senior Petroleum Analyst for Gas Buddy Dan McTeague says it’s due to a disruption in the Explorer pipeline last week, which carries gasoline from the U.S. Gulf Coast up to the U.S. Midwest.

“That’s been pushing wholesale prices up as much as 60 cents a gallon.”

He says $1.19 per litre is probably the highest we’ll see for the time being, but they could rise to $1.24 by next Wednesday.

As of Wednesday prices ranged from $1.09 to $1.19 per litre in Fort McMurray.
