Two people are safe after their vehicle was submerged in a body of water.

The vehicle was seen driving into a body of water off of Aostra Road on the west side of Highway 63 near Noralta Lodge approximately 25 kilometers north of Fort McMurray on Tuesday, Nov. 7 around 1:20 p.m.

The occupants in the vehicle were able to exit the vehicle, unharmed and are safe. The driver and owner of the vehicle was arrested and charged for impaired driving.

The Wood Buffalo RCMP want to thank the public for their concern regarding this incident and are reminding all motorists to stay off the various bodies of water. It is not cold enough yet for it to be safe to drive on the lakes, and rivers in the Wood Buffalo region.

The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo will update the public when it is deemed safe for the opening of the winter ice roads.
