Two-time Olympic gold medalist Alexandre Bilodeau will kick off the 2018 Alberta Winter Games as emcee for the opening ceremonies.

Bilodeau made history in 2010 as the first Olympian to win a gold medal on Canadian soil, then again in 2014 as he defended his medal in a freestyle skiing event.

The Olympian says he’s excited to share the Alberta Winter Games with the next generation of athletes.

“I could not think of a better moment than during Olympic games to reflect to these young athletes that the experience that they are about to live is unique. For some of them it will be the highlight of their sport career and others it will be a stepping stone to the Olympics, but for all of them it will be long life memories.”

Over 2000 people will take the Shell Place Baseball Diamond Feb. 16 at 7 p.m. for opening ceremonies.

The Opening Ceremonies will be live streamed online here

The Games take place February 16 – 19, 2018, and operate in partnership with the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo and Alberta Sport Connection.
