LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The long-sought goal of being able to get in and out of Los Angeles International Airport via an automated people mover instead of by car or bus has taken a step forward with a recommendation by the city airports department on who should develop the project.

Los Angeles World Airports says it has chosen LAX Integrated Express Solutions and will seek approval from the Airport Commission and City Council.

LINXS would design, build and operate the system under a $4.5 billion, 30-year contract.

Commissioners on Thursday approved a preliminary $42 million agreement with LINXS for pre-construction work to keep the project on schedule for completion in 2023.

The 2 1/4-mile system will carry up to 10,000 passengers per hour and connect to a transportation centre and the Metro light-rail system.
