Minister of Culture and Tourism Ricardo Miranda was in town for the 2018 Alberta Winter Games, along with thousands of others.

Not only did Miranda speak at the Welcome Press Conference at Shell Place, but he stopped by Asti Trattoria Italiana to speak with owner Karen Collins.

Collins was the first to make a move in retaliation to British Columbia’s threat to ban increased shipments of bitumen from Alberta to B.C., halting the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion.

Miranda said when he heard about Collins removing B.C. wine from her menu he knew it was a stop he had to make while in town.

“It’s such an inspiring story for us, to see how this community really comes together and supports industry that we know is in national interest.”

He added that the pipeline is important to not just Alberta, but to B.C. and the country.

It was announced Friday that the City of Burnaby is seeking to appeal permits that were granted to Kinder Morgan by the National Energy Board, saying they should have to comply with all local bylaws.
