The Métis Nation of Alberta (MNA) Region 1 have suspended Regional Vice President Dan Cardinal.
The decision was made at their annual general meeting last week in a move to restore accountability and trust within the larger MNA.
A release states that confidence in Cardinal was lost due to a number of factors including signing a Regional Protocol Agreement with the MNA after the decision was made not to sign it.
Cardinal also supported the motion to hold the 2018 annual general assembly in La la Biche instead of Fort McKay.
Fort McKay Metis Community Association President Ron Quintal says for the MNA to be seen as a legitimate leadership body, it needs to work to serve all Métis people in Alberta, and not just a few at the top.
