Fort McMurray native and former defenseman for the Fort McMurray Oil Barons, Wil Tomchuk scored the game winning goal to help the University of Alberta Golden Bears win the 2018 University Cup Final over St. Francis Xavier 4-2.
It was a surreal experience for Tomchuk, who was playing forward during the game.
“It was kind of a blurr, I went to the front of the net and my linemate, Taylor Cooper brought the puck to the net and it just happened to pop out of the side and I just put it in the net,” said Tomchuk, “It’s hard to describe the moment in such big game like that, it was pretty exciting.”
Tomchuk has a couple of years left as an eligible player for the Golden Bears and plans to keep playing hockey.
