Two models of Kidde dual sensor smoke alarms are being recalled by the company, Health Canada and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission due to a protective cap that could compromise their ability to detect smoke.

The models affected by the recall are PI2010CA and PI9010CA and were sold between Sept. 10, 2016 and Oct. 13, 2017.  Date codes and model numbers can be found on the back of the unit.

According to the company the smoke alarms have a yellow cap visible through the opening on the side of the alarm. This cap should have been removed in the manufacturing process.

Nearly 40,000 units of the affected smoke alarm were sold in Canada, while 452,000 were sold in the United States between Nov. 1, 2016 to Jan. 25, 2018.

Contact Kidde immediately to identify the presence of a yellow sensor cap and request a free replacement.

If you’re affected it’s recommended that you don’t throw out the alarm until you receive and install the replacement.
