His time with the Fort McMurray Oil Barons may have been short but Coy Prevost certainly made an immediate impact with the MOB after a late season trade.

Prevost was acquired by the MOB at the January 10th CJHL trade deadline from the Canmore Eagles. The former Eagles captain gave the Oil Barons another veteran voice in the dressing room and a gritty style on the ice.

After three years in the Alberta Junior Hockey League, the 20 year old has committed to attend and play for the University of Windsor Lancers of U SPORTS, starting this fall.

“Coy’s a player that came to us at the deadline this year and made an immediate impact to our team,” said MOB Head Coach and General Manager Tom Keca. “He’s a character kid that brought a lot of leadership and experience to our dressing room. As a coaching staff and organization, we’re thrilled for him and wish him all the best in Windsor next season.”

Prevost was a versatile player for the MOB, playing both centre and the wing as he chipped in six goals and 12 points in 18 games. He added a goal and six points in 10 playoff games as the MOB were eliminated in the second round of the AJHL playoffs.

Prior to coming to Fort McMurray, the Kimberley, BC native spent two and half years in Canmore, suiting up in 158 games and recording 58 goals and 126 points.

“Coy is an exciting addition to our hockey program,” said Lancers Head Coach Kevin Hamlin. “He’s a three zone player who has excellent offensive instincts. We defy teams to out work us and our relentless puck pursuit philosophy is tailor made for him.”

“After sitting and speaking with Coy, I am more confident than ever that he is well-suited with our team’s identity,” added Hamlin.

Prevost is the fourth Oil Baron player to commit to a post-secondary institution for next season joining Will Conley (Holy Cross NCAA Div. 1), Eric Szudor (Alaska-Anchorage NCAA Div. 1) and Merritt Oszytko (Rochester Institute of Technology NCAA Div. 1).
