Mayor Scott to discuss pipelines with Prime Minister

Mayor Scott plans to discuss the importance of pipelines with the Prime Minister while he's in town tomorrow.

Mayor Don Scott said Thursday that he plans to discuss the important of pipelines with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau tomorrow afternoon.

Scott said that the pipeline isn’t just a concern for our region, but for Canadians in general.

“There’s always more that can be done, I always take that view. I’m greedy for this region and I’m greedy for the future of the region. I’ll never, truly be satisfied.”

Trudeau will be in town to tour Suncor’s Fort Hills facility, followed by a round table with energy sector leaders and a meeting with leaders from local First Nations and Métis communities.

Honourable Amarjeet Sohi, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities in the federal cabinet said he’s confident the pipeline will get built.

He said they understand how critical the pipeline and the energy infrastructure is to the growth of the Canadian economy.

Rachel Notley said Tuesday she will head to Toronto and New York to speak to business leaders and will also take her message to a meeting of U-S and Mexican governors and Canadian premiers early next month.

The pipeline was approved by the Trudeau government in 2016, but activists continue to protest saying it will raise the risk of oil spills.
