President of the Fort McKay Métis, Ron Quintal announced that he will not be running in the upcoming Métis Nation of Alberta Association (MNAA) provincial election.

He said he is humbled by the overwhelming support from across the province, especially after announcing their land purchase.

“I have more to do in my community and my region. I can’t leave this work unfinished.”

Now that the land purchase is complete, the Fort McKay Métis plan to develop a self-government model.

They also have an economic development plan which includes new housing and facilities for its members.

Quintal said he looks forward to empowering other communities and will travel across the province to promote the Fort McKay model.

The MNAA election is to be held in Sept. 2018.
