Councillor Jeff Peddle has withdrawn his seven motions regarding Fly In, Fly Out (FIFO) workers in the region.

At a council meeting on April 24th, he presented the motions stating that he and his colleagues couldn’t come to an agreement with industry about reducing the FIFO workforce.

The motions would have council debate a reduction in the FIFO workforce, increase of local employees and utilization of the YMM International Airport and ultimately have the RMWB consider FIFO an unacceptable practice.

They would also also have consultations done on FIFO, negotiation meetings with industry and see Mayor Don Scott write letters to provincial government requesting that the province investigates into FIFO issues along with work commutes in the region, taxation on work camps and request that our region be grandfathered or exempt to Bill 8 and Bill 21.

MyMcMurray has reached out to Peddle to ask why he has withdrawn the motions and are waiting to hear back.

The next council meeting is on Tuesday, May 22, where The Urban Development institute (UDI) of Wood Buffalo will be making a presentation on FIFO and the Municipal Government Act Tax Ratio.
