The Government of Alberta has given $1.8 million to three day-care centres in Fort McMurray to offer $25 a day childcare.

Last month the province announced an additional 82 centres across the Alberta would join the pilot program.

The centres in Fort McMurray are Children First: Community Child Care – Eagle Ridge Nest, The Fort McMurray Boys and Girls Club – Tiny Toes Daycare, YMCA Birchwood Child Care and Willow Lake Tiny Tots Daycare Centre in Anzac.

“This takes a huge financial burden off our shoulders. It’s so much easier saying goodbye in the morning knowing that my kids are getting the highest quality of child care for only $25 a day,” said Tina Delainey a parent that utilizes the service.

Minister of Children’s Services, Danielle Larivee was in Fort McMurray on Friday checking out the Tiny Toes Daycare at the Boys and Girls Club.

“Parents shouldn’t have to choose between groceries and daycare. These spaces will make an incredible difference, opening up worlds of possibilities,” said Larivee.

The discounted service save parents an average $425 a month.

There are now 7,300 spaces at 122 centres across Alberta, Larivee mentioned that they hope to expand the program to all day-cares.
