Alberta Heath Services (AHS ) and Environment Canada have issued air quality advisories for the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo due to wildfires burning in the area.

Smoke from the fire burning 10 kilometers south of Janvier is causing poor air quality and is reducing visibility.

People may experience symptoms such as increased coughing, throat irritation, headaches or shortness of breath. Children, seniors, and those with cardiovascular or lung disease, such as asthma, are especially at risk.

As a precaution, you are advised to minimize physical activities outdoors, keep windows, doors and air circulation closed and monitor your symptoms.

If you are experiencing symptoms, you can call the Health Link at any time, toll-fee at 811, to speak to a registered nurse.

More information on how to reduce your health risk can be found online.

The air quality advisory will remain in effect until further notice. Information is updated hourly on the Alberta Environment Air Quality Website.
