A Holy Trinity student believes her hard work has paid off after receiving a $61,000 scholarship.

Hannah MacDonald was notified at the end of March that she had won the Seymour Schulich Academic Excellence Entrance Scholarship for Students Outside the Calgary Area from the University Of Calgary School Of Engineering.

MacDonald said that after she received the email she started to get excited.

“I kind of freaked out a little. I had to show my mom. My mom was so excited. I can do what I need to do to succeed now. It’s a weight off my shoulders.”

MacDonald wants to go into software development.

“There are so many different options. I can specialize when I know exactly what I want to do. I’ve always known I’d be interested in math and science. It’s something I’ve continually pursued myself. “I’m extremely grateful for this. This doesn’t happen to most people. I’m so very thankful.”

Holy Trinity Principal, Lisa Hilsenteger triumphed MacDonald’s hard work.

“We wish her much success as she continues on her education path. I am incredibly excited that we have highly academic and well-rounded students at Holy Trinity who are able to compete for high level scholarships in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM).”

MacDonald will start post-secondary at the U of C in the fall.
