Sid Fayad, a Fort McMurray business owner and entrepreneur, is running as the Alberta Party candidate in Fort McMurray-Conklin for the by-election on July 12.

Originally from Lebanon, 31 year-old Fayad moved to Alberta when he was two where much of his family were already living and working as store owners.

In 2008 he moved to Fort McMurray and has opened several business, including restaurants, a barbershop, a thrift shop and currentlyruns a granite business.

Although he has no previous experience in politics, he told MyMcMurray why he would make a good MLA.

“I know that I’m the right person for the job because I have my hands in Fort McMurray,” said Fayad. “So really anybody else that is coming and has been doing politics professionally, they are really just there to argue with other politians and political members and that’s just going to waste their time.”

Fayad feels strongly about improving the economy and recovering from the downturn and 2016 wildfire.

“Fort McMurray-Conklin needs a strong voice in the Legislature right now,” said Fayad. “The province’s finances are a mess and the Fort McMurray region is still struggling.”

He would also support pipeline building, promoting the oil sands and work on scrapping the carbon tax.
