Multiple locations available for National Day of Testing

HIV North and Alberta Health Services are encouraging everyone to participate in National Day of Testing.

Latest stats from the Public Health Agency of Canada suggests that one in five Canadians are unaware they have HIV.

“A National HIV Testing Day will help reduce the stigma associated with testing.  Knowing your HIV status is important for your health.  If you are living with HIV, you should start treatment as soon as possible. HIV medicine can keep you healthy for many years and greatly reduces your chance of transmitting the virus,” said Linda Mason, spokesperson for HIV North Society.

On Wednesday, June 27, there will be multiple locations throughout the region to be tested for HIV, chlamydia and gonorrhea free of charge.

  • Keyano College, Nurses Office- 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
  • McMurray Experience- 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Testing for Hepatitis C will also be available.
  • Fort McMurray STI Clinic- 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Testing for Hepatitis C will also be available.

The day also hopes to promote best practices for sexual health and safer drug use.

This is the first time Canada as a whole is participating in the National Day of Testing.
