Council saw another heavy item agenda when met on June 26, for their regular biweekly meeting.

The hot topic of the night was whistleblower compliant made against Councillor Krista Balsom after she inadvertently breached the Municipal Government Act by voting on grant applications she had financial interest in.

Council voted 6 to 3 to demand her resignation by Thursday at 4:30 p.m. or failing that to send the matter to court.

They also heavily debated alternative site locations for the public art piece, Reflections on the River as delegates were concerned the art would negatively affect the flight path of the floater plans that land on the Clearwater River, however it was decided the piece belongs where it was originally designed to be displayed.

They also talked about asset management and allocated funds for the 2018 games legacy grant and joint initiatives grant.

Council approved the rezoning of land so Akron Engineering, on behalf of the property owners of the Fort McMurray Ashler Building Club can build a not-for-profit office space that will serve as a community gathering space for local clubs.

The Wood Buffalo sustainability plan also got approval at the meeting.  The plan is a document that will help the Municipality and community partner’s respond to current and future needs in the region.

Councillor Phil Meagher will be nominated for the Alberta Urban Municipalities Association Distinguished Service Award for his service to the RMWB for over 23 years.

The meeting also confirmed that Councillor Jane Stroud will be taking an unpaid leave of absence until July 12 as she runs in the by-election to be the next MLA for Fort McMurray-Conklin.
