Jane Stroud’s campaign office was filled with supporters and volunteers Thursday to welcome Alberta Premier Rachel Notley.

Notley spoke in support of Stroud, who is running to be the next MLA of Fort McMurray-Conklin.

“She’s got a resume that is very long of standing up for the people of this community, for working to build this community, for making sure that life is better for the people that she represents in this community and I’m just so proud that we are able to be here with her and having her on the ballot representing us.”

She also mentioned Stroud’s work in infrastructure for our region, including the Anzac fire hall and Conklin multiplex.

Stroud was also praised for working in the community to stand up for the Trans Mountain pipeline, which is expected to see work begin this summer.

She said that crews have already been assembling materials and putting up notices for construction.

Along with Trans Mountain, Notley talked about the provincial deficit, which came in smaller than expected this week and the court’s decision to deny an injunction on Alberta’s gay-straight alliance legislation, which which bans schools from telling parents if their kids join an alliance.

“At the end of the day we want to make sure that vulnerable kids in our schools are protected and feel safe.”

She added that they will continue to fight for them saying the NDP “has their backs”.

Notley also made stops in Janiver, Anzac and Conklin.
