Residents on Rose Bay and Rosslyn Street in Thickwood experienced a sewer backup, which caused some flooding, on Monday night.

The municipality said a blockage, made up of grease and debris restricted flow in the main sewer line, while an increased amount of waste entered the sewer along with rain runoff.

Underground Services has since cleared the blockage and flushed the line.

As a part of regular infrastructure planning, the municipality has already been working on the Thickwood Perimeter Sewer Project, which will provide a long-term solution.

The project involves up-sizing storm and sewer lines to accommodate stricter design standards and larger volumes of water.

As of Wednesday, RMWB Insurance Services has been contacted by seven residents affected by the backup.

If you were affected you should contact your private insurer and RMWB Insurance Services at 780-793-1145.

Be sure to document damages before throwing anything away and keep all receipts for costs incurred during the clean-up process.

Help prevent future blockages by knowing the impact of fat, oil and grease.
