After three gruelling months an injured Humboldt Broncos hockey player is finally heading home.

Ryan Straschnitzki landed at the Calgary airport Wednesday afternoon along with his family, he will be going back to Airdrie, following a month of therapy in the United States.

“Just visit friends and family, I’m going to take my girlfriend to the Stampede and just have some fun,” said Straschnitzki.

To say the least, the 19-year-old is excited to get back home, but he will continue to do physical therapy in Calgary

He says the treatment he received in Philadelphia was world class.

“It’s different, it’s a whole another game. But, no the therapy was great and the city was just great to be in.”

Straschnitzki has come a long way since the tragic bus crash on April 6, but has gained weight and lots of upper body strength and can do many things himself already.

His father Tom says it is truly inspiring.

“Couldn’t be prouder of him, actually proud of all the kids cause the way they stepped up to help this week in Philly, that’s the way we are, and we’re there to help.”

It will be another three or four months until Ryan can officially live at their Airdrie home as major renovations are needed first to make the house more accessible beginning with a homewrecking party this weekend.
