There will be a special council meeting on Monday, July 9 as the Municipality prepares for the upcoming legalization of cannabis in October.

Administration has researched best practices in other cities, engaged with the public and found that that key areas for concern are the protection of youth, location of cannabis retail stories and production and distribution facilities, public consumption laws and the number of plants allowed per household.

After their research and through participating in a round table discussion Administration is suggesting changes to the land use bylaw, smoke free bylaw and license bylaw to accommodate the legalization of recreation cannabis in the RMWB and hold a public hearing where delegates and members of their communities can voice their concerns on the matter.

The meeting will be at 6 p.m. in Council Chambers.
