Goodridge elected as Fort McMurray-Conklin MLA

Laila Goodridge will represent the Fort McMurray-Conklin riding in the legislature.

Unofficial Elections Alberta results determine that the United Conservative Party candidate was able to hold onto the seat by receiving 2,635 votes.

Goodridge said they were nervous about voter turnout, but the results show a blue wave through the Fort McMurray-Conklin riding.

“Tonight Albertans over-whelming rejected the NDP’s carbon tax, smear and tax hike agendas. Elections are always unpredictable and this was no different,” said Goodridge.

“I am humbled by the support.”

Jane Stroud for the New Democrat Party obtained 1,181 votes, Stroud will return to her seat on council. She called Goodridge around 9:30 Thursday night to concede and congratulate her on the win.

In Sid Fayad’s first political experience he received 110 votes.

The Green Party and Liberal Party brought up the rear with 29 and 44 votes respectively.

The general election will take place on or before May 31, 2019.
