OTTAWA – Canada’s national unemployment rate was 5.8 per cent in July. Here are the jobless rates last month by province (numbers from the previous month in brackets):

— Newfoundland and Labrador per cent 15.4 (15.5)

— Prince Edward Island 9.5 (8.9)

— Nova Scotia 8.0 (7.9)

— New Brunswick 7.5 (7.5)

— Quebec 5.6 (5.4)

— Ontario 5.4 (5.9)

— Manitoba 6.0 (6.1)

— Saskatchewan 6.6 (6.3)

— Alberta 6.7 (6.5)

— British Columbia 5.0 (5.2)
