Unemployment rate drops in July

Unemployment in the Wood Buffalo-Cold Lake region dropped in July.

Statistics Canada’s latest Labour Force Survey reports that unemployment last month was 6.3 per cent, compared to 6.5 per cent in June.

According to the survey results 83.8 people were employed in July, compared to 84.2 in June. The region added roughly 300 full-time jobs.

Provincially the unemployment rate increased to 6.6 per cent from 6.5.

Nationally the unemployment rate fell to a four-decade low of 5.8 per cent, down from six per cent in June.
