A new computed tomography (CT) scanner is being installed at the Northern Lights Regional Health Centre.

The new scanner, funded by Alberta Health Services (AHS), will replace one installed in April that was frequently breaking down.

Cora Therrien, manager of the diagnostic imagining department with AHS explained to MyMcMurray what was wrong with the machine.

“It was a malfunction with the power up and power off of the system, said Therrien, “There was no issues with safety or the quality of the scans that were preformed on it.”

The new scanner is set to be fully operational by Thursday, Aug. 24, until then those requiring an urgent CT scan will have access to a temporary CT scanner installed in a trailer near the emergency department.
