ALERT seized estimated $80K in fentanyl and cocaine from Timberlea apartment

Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams (ALERT) seized an estimated $80,000 worth of fentanyl and cocaine along with a 9mm handgun from an apartment in the the 100-block of Loutit Road on August 23, 2018.

After receiving information about suspected drug trafficking earlier in the month ALERT, Wood Buffalo RCMP and the RCMP K-Division Emergency Response Team made the arrests and seized 226 grams of suspected fentanyl powder, 38 grams of powder cocaine, 8 grams of crack cocaine, $6,000 in cash along with packaging materials, scales, and drug trafficking paraphernalia.

The handgun had its serial number removed and will also undergo further testing and analysis.

“Fentanyl and firearms pose a high degree of risk to the community, especially in the wrong hands,” said Sgt. Brad Lundeen, ALERT Fort McMurray.

The four men arrested each face multiple charges and include two Fort McMurray men, 25-year-old Awale Hosh Dirie and 23-year-old Hasin Abdulkadir Mohamed, a 20-year-old of no fixed address, Samatar Mohiadin and a 23-year-old from Toronto, Yashin Mahad Ali who is also wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for his alleged role in a 2016 attempted murder that took place in Toronto.

ALERT has been in contact with Toronto Police Service to facilitate Ali’s return to Ontario.
