Energy consumption increased in the region this summer compared to last with only slightly higher temperatures.
An analysis done by ATCO Electric with data from three substations in the region, showed that although temperatures both years were in the mid-thirties, energy consumption increased nearly 10,000 kW in 2018.
Information provided by ATCO shows that consumption never exceeded 90,000 kW between May and August 2017.
The same period this year shows peak electricity usage as high as 100,000 kW.
Overall, the report shows a strong correlation between temperature and energy consumption.
Consumption was recorded at the same time as the temperature which was obtained from Environment Canada.
