Local boys start Fort Mac Hockey Bros to help outfit hockey players

PHOTO. Cruze Flett, 8 and Parker Flett, 11, are two brothers who created "Fort Mac Hockey Bros" in efforts to help hockey players throughout the RMWB the proper hockey equipment.

Local hockey players Parker and Cruze Flett have started “Fort Mac Hockey Bros” to collect donations of new hockey equipment.

Parker, 11, is a goalie and told MyMcMurray that him and his younger brother want to collect the donations so young hockey players in remote areas of the region can access the proper equipment needed to play hockey.

“Cause if they fall and they don’t have the right gear, they can get hurt,” said eight year-old Cruze.

Parker added, “If you can help somebody, you should help them.”

In a press release, their mother, Allison Flett, stated that the boys came to her with their idea all on their own.

“I’m overwhelmed by their compassion and consideration of kids their age, who don’t have the opportunity to play hockey,” said Allison.  “I’m putting a call out to the community to nurture their philanthropic spirits by supporting this fundraiser.”

Donations can be made to the drop box outside of 196 Pliska Crescent in Parsons Creek or by contacting Allison through their Facebook page.

The Fort Mac Hockey Bros will also be donating a hockey themed tree to the Northern Lights Health Foundations’s Festival of Trees.  The tree will be featured in the Festival of Trees Gala live auction on Saturday, Nov. 17 where money raised goes towards funding health care in the region.  The winning bidder of the tree will get to take home the tree and accompany Parker and Cruze to donate all of the gear.

The gear collected will be donated to youth in Fort Chipewyan, Fort McKay, Conklin and Janvier.
