NEB plans public hearing for Trans Mountain

The National Energy Board (NEB) announced Wednesday that it would hold a public hearing for the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion.

The NEB is looking for feedback on draft changes of the environmental assessment, the draft list of issues to be considered during the hearing and on the overall design of the hearing process, including which government departments should be required during the hearing.

Three board members have been assigned to the hearing panel and the application to participate in the hearing is now open.

The deadline for filing comments, and for applying to participate in the hearing, is Oct. 3.

Since the Federal Court of Appeal overturned the approval of the project on Aug. 30,  the federal government has directed the NEB to complete a review and issue a report no later than Feb. 22, 2019.

The decision from the Court of Appeal cited lack of consultation with Indigenous groups and failure to address the effects of marine shipping on the southern resident killer whale population off the coast of British Columbia.
