His nickname may be “Bear” but perhaps “Lion” is a better moniker for Fort McMurray MMA fighter Teddy Ash after he showed the heart one to win his latest bout. This time against an 11 fight UFC veteran in Seth Baczynski at Unified MMA 34 at the River Cree Casino outside of Edmonton on Saturday.

Ash found himself on the ground just moments before scoring the knockout punch. A precarious position for him in this fight as he had suffered an injury a month previous that kept him from properly working on his grappling, but the “Bear” worked his way back to his feet and landed a right-left hook combo that sent Bacyznski crashing to the floor for the TKO win with just two seconds left in the final round.

“It’s pretty surreal and it was a relief when the ref finally jumped in,” said Ash from Edmonton where he now trains full-time. “I knew it was going to be a razor thin decision if it went to the decision. I knew the fight was coming to an end any second so I just went for it.”

The win was Ash’s sixth in a row, but most importantly his third straight belt win. The Fort McMurrayite who first started training out of Bowman’s MMA currently holds the Unified MMA Middleweight and Light-Heavyweight belts along with the Prestige FC Middleweight belt.

With a pro-record of 12-3, three belts, a six fight win-streak capped by a victory over a former UFC fighter the question now is how long until Ash gets the call himself to join the UFC.

“It could be any day, anytime now, they might, they might not. I’m being patient and not holding my breath on it,” said Ash. “Winning big fights like this is just going to open more and more doors, so just waiting to see which is the best door for me to go through now.”
