The Northern Lights Health Foundation (NLHF) raised $51,000 at their Inaugural Hospital Bed Race.

Mother Nature may not have cooperated with the event, but Director of Development at NLHF Lorna Ash said the event was a lot of fun and an overall success.

Each team that participated in the event was expected to raise $2,500 for the foundation’s total goal of $30,000.

Ash said that, although it looked like the teams may not have reached their goals, they pulled through and exceeded expectations.

The money raised from the event will go towards unexpected, critical needs.

“They’re unrestricted funds from the event, so they’re not designated to a specific area, as those critical needs come up we’re able to designate those funds in that direction.”

Between cash sponsors and gift-in-kind sponsors there were 25 local businesses and individuals who stepped forward to help coordinate and launch the races.

There were also 30 volunteers helping on event day to make sure it went as smoothly as possible.

Four teams went home with awards, with Finning Canada taking home the Golden Bed Pan Trophy.
